Saracens Head Angling Group.
January Catch Report (2019).
Rob Hartley fished the river early in the month for an hour or so, trotting maggot he
accounted for a dozen or so Grayling, best at 12oz. Rob fished the upstream section from the
stables and reports the river was in perfect condition. Dave Ashworth and Roger Kempshall
tried the river on Monday Jan 28th, weather was cold and dry, water was dropping and
coloured. Both fished gh Nymphs and also tried dries, fished upstream from the footbridge
just below the stables. Unfortunately neither had any response, probably the water was too
cold and too coloured.
Paul Bednall visited the canal on January 23rd and tried using the “Drop Shot” method
between the bridge at Boat Lane and the boatyard and caught 5 Perch to 2lb, weather was
cold but at least it didn’t rain. Paul tried the canal a few days later, using the same method he
caught 2 Perch and 2 Chub, his best fish was a 21/2 lb Chub, weather on this occasion was
warmer but heavy rain showers.
Lower Blythe.
Mike Williamson fished the river on Thursday January 24th, he reports the river was up about
10”, running fast with some colour, the weather was cold, it being the 3rd frosty day in
succession. Mike trotted 3 maggots on a 16’s hook and found the bites few and far between,
about 6 in all in the whole session, but he still managed 2 Trout of 6” and 10”, a Grayling of
10” and a sizeable Chub around the 3lb mark.
